The original Colorado Flag Map was painted using thinned down acrylic paints over a Colorado road map. You can see some of the fold lines highlighted by the paint. The design of the flag is very symbolic of the state. The blue is for the skies. The white represents the snow in the mountains. The gold circle is for the sunny days. It is said Colorado gets an average of 300 sunny days a year. The red "C" is how it got its name from the Spanish when they saw the red colored earth. They called it colored red or "Colorado". I didn't want to just paint the flag exactly as it is over the map. I wanted it to have movement and energy, so I painted the colors at the same time over a wet map. This allowed me time to work the colors together to create a mix of the colors and a fluidity where the colors meet. It is embellished with raised gold metal around the sun and this reproduction comes in 2 different sizes. * Brian
Colorado Flag Map is a one of a kind hand embellished reproduction using our raised “Molten Metals” process. This added dimension makes it look like the original but at a fraction of the cost. Printed on a ready to hang 1.5" deep canvas, the edges are gallery wrapped in black so there's no need to frame!
Due to the hand crafted nature of this artwork, each piece may have subtle differences.
