Blue Plaster Aspens 60" x 48" (original artwork) SOLD

Blue Plaster Aspens is an original mixed media artwork on stretched canvas.  Acrylic washes were used in many layers for the background to build up a rich depth of color.  The aspen or birch tree trunks are heavily textured with plaster.  Many layers of acrylic color are layered and then dry brushed to bring out the texture of the trunks.   The shape of the aspen leaves are made by printing a real leaf on the surface (the real aspen leaf is then removed). Silver leaf fills in the background of the leaf, and it is then antiqued. Fall is the last hurrah for the short lived leaves of the aspen trees. After twisting and turning with the summer winds trying to capture all the energy of the summer sun, they seem to sense the waning sun and decide to go out in a blaze of glorious golds and oranges. Metallic paints and metal leaf are used to create the "chatter" below the horizon line.  Our "Molten Metals" process is then used in raised brass across the horizon line. *Michele
