The original Colorado Flag Map was painted using thinned down acrylic paints over a Colorado road map. You can see some of the fold lines highlighted by the paint. The design of the flag is very symbolic of the state. The blue is for the skies. The white represents the snow in the mountains. The gold circle is for the sunny days. It is said Colorado gets an average of 300 sunny days a year. The red "C" is how it got its name from the Spanish when they saw the red colored earth. They called it colored red or "Colorado". I didn't want to just paint the flag exactly as it was over the map. I wanted it to have movement and energy, so I painted the colors at the same time over a wet map. This allowed me time to work the colors together to create a mix of the colors and a fluidity where the colors meet. * Brian
