The original New Mexico Flag Map was painted on a road map of New Mexico. I painted it using thin washes of acrylic paints that allow the map to show through. I painted the background first, allowed it to dry, then traced out the Zia symbol, painted that and then added the gold raised spiral to the center of the Zia. To the Zia people it symbolizes the Circle of Life: the four directions, the four times of day, the four stages of life, and the four seasons. The circle binds the four elements of four together. *Brian
Because this is a print, this product does not have the raised dimensional metal (it is a photo of the metal).
